Paint durability is important to achieving the best quality paint job. There are many different types of paint on the market, including satin finishes, gloss finishes and high gloss finishes. The satin paint is not known for being extremely durable and will wipe off faster during cleaning sessions than gloss paints. The high gloss paint is the most durable and easiest paint to clean. Use the appropriately durable paint for the room. Kids' rooms and bathrooms should have high gloss paint, while dining and living rooms may use satin or flat paints.



Not allowing the paint to drip onto the floor and furniture is vital to a high quality paint job. The best quality paint jobs leave paint only on the walls. To protect areas that should not be painted, use painter's tape on the molding and other areas of the wall that paint is not desired. To protect the floor and furniture it is vital to use tarps and painter's plastic over these areas. Only move the paint over areas that are covered by the tarp and allow the paint on the tarp to dry before moving the tarp. Paint that accidentally is dripped where it is not supposed to go should be immediately wiped up with a paper towel and the area should be cleaned with a mineral water.



It is important to use the same direction strokes while applying paint to an object. No matter how careful the paint is applied, there will always be brush stroke marks. If the strokes are in the same direction, this gives the paint a more finished appearance than if the brush strokes were going in all directions. This is not so much an issue if using a paint roller, although the best quality paint job is done with the strokes all going the same direction no matter if a paint brush or roller is used.
